Keep Active had the privilege of attending the Cancer Improvement Collaborative Health Professionals Workshop, an inspiring event that brought together experts dedicated to enhancing outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer. A central theme of the workshop was the powerful role that exercise can play in both pre-habilitation and rehabilitation for cancer patients.

Emerging evidence continues to highlight the profound benefits of physical activity. Regular, tailored exercise has been shown to reduce tumour recurrence by up to 40%, while also helping to minimise peripheral nerve inflammation and damage often associated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In addition, exercise plays a vital role in combating fatigue—one of the most common and debilitating side effects experienced during cancer treatment.

In line with this growing body of research, Keep Active is proud to have secured funding from the Northern Cancer Alliance to deliver a dedicated prehabilitation programme. This initiative is designed to support individuals as they prepare for cancer treatment, focusing on three key pillars: nutrition, physical strength, and mental wellbeing.

Being part of this pilot programme is both an honour and a responsibility. We are hopeful that through this work, we can make a meaningful difference—helping to improve the overall cancer journey and outcomes for patients by equipping them with the tools and support they need before, during, and after treatment.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the programme develops and to continuing our commitment to supporting healthier, more resilient communities.
