Martin’s path has been defined by his ability to adapt and grow. When he first joined ourKeep Active holiday programmes in Sunderland, though shy, he brought with him a quiet determination that quickly became his trademark. While many might find the demands of a changing environment daunting, Martin discovered an outlet in sport, using it as a space to build confidence and develop a unique perspective on teamwork.
Throughout his time with Keep Active, Martin’s attitude has been impeccable. He approaches every session with a growth-oriented mindset, viewing each new experience as an opportunity to sharpen his skills and broaden his understanding of leadership. Our coaches and teammates have noted his remarkable ability to navigate complex situations with composure—a trait that has made him a natural mentor to the younger children in our care.
As his leadership skills have blossomed, Martin has moved beyond personal achievement to foster a more inclusive team culture. He actively supports his teammates, organises training, and promotes a spirit of collective success. Younger children look up to him as a role model who demonstrates that success is built on consistent effort, discipline, and the courage to show up for oneself and others.
Today, Martin is regarded as one of our brightest young leaders. His journey illustrates the power of self-belief and the impact one individual can have when they choose to lead with empathy.
